President of UAE receives Italian PM Meloni

A two-day visit by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the UAE was hosted by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today. He expressed his hope that Prime Minister Meloni’s first visit to the UAE would provide a strong impetus for the development of relations between the two friendly nations.

President of UAE receives Italian PM MeloniIn the next stage, the two countries discussed cooperation paths and opportunities to build a strategic partnership between them. Among the topics covered were energy security, renewable energy, clean technologies, and sustainable development, as well as climate change, food security, industry, advanced technology, and other concerns that are shared by both nations.

As well as reviewing regional and international developments, they exchanged views on common interest issues, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomatic solutions to address various crises, enhance security and stability, and create a better future. Building on what has been achieved, the two leaders expressed their desire to accelerate bilateral relations.

COP28, which the UAE is hosting this year, was also discussed. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed underlined the depth of UAE-Italy ties, which are marked by strong partnerships, affirming the UAE’s desire to develop them. Moreover, the UAE supports peace and cooperation through dialogue and diplomacy, stressing its readiness to cooperate with Italy for regional and global stability and development.

The UAE has set a target of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, the same date the UAE has set, so Sheikh Mohamed hoped for an active and influential Italian participation in COP28. According to PM Meloni, her country is eager to enhance cooperation with the UAE to benefit all parties and strengthen security and stability, pointing out that the two countries share the same vision on topics of mutual interest, and that the UAE is an important partner.
