ABU DHABI: Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, received Germany’s foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, in Abu Dhabi on March 11 as the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and ongoing cooperation, according to an official UAE readout. The meeting formed part of continuing high-level contacts between the UAE and Germany and focused on expanding coordination between the two governments on shared priorities.

The UAE said the talks addressed ways to strengthen the friendship between the two countries and to broaden cooperation across the economy, trade, industry and investment. Officials discussed practical steps to build on existing areas of collaboration and to support further engagement between relevant institutions, with an emphasis on initiatives that advance growth and deepen links between public and private sectors in both markets.

The ministers also reviewed the outcomes of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s official visit to the UAE in February, which the UAE described as a milestone that reinforced established relations and effective partnerships. The UAE said the visit supported momentum in bilateral ties and provided a platform for follow-up work across multiple sectors, reflecting an approach centered on development, prosperity and the well-being of both countries’ peoples.

Economic cooperation and investment focus

The UAE said the Abu Dhabi meeting was attended by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, minister of industry and advanced technology, and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, minister of state. Their presence underscored the economic and industrial focus of the discussions, as officials examined avenues to expand cooperation in trade and investment and to support collaboration linked to industrial development and innovation across priority areas identified by both sides.

The Abu Dhabi talks followed a working visit to Berlin on March 4, when Sheikh Abdullah met Wadephul and reviewed UAE-Germany relations and ways to enhance cooperation across sectors, according to the UAE. The UAE said those discussions covered opportunities to develop a more advanced partnership, with cooperation areas referenced by the UAE including renewables, food security, science and advanced technology, alongside trade, investment and industry.

High-level visits underscore strategic partnership

Contacts between the UAE and Germany have included frequent ministerial and leadership-level engagements in recent years, with both governments highlighting economic ties and collaboration in energy, innovation and advanced technology. The UAE has described Germany as an important European partner, while both sides have pointed to the role of business and investment links in supporting broader diplomatic relations and sustained institutional cooperation.

In Abu Dhabi, the UAE said the foreign ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest and stressed the value of continued dialogue through official channels. The UAE said the meeting reflected the depth of relations and the intent to keep coordination active as both sides pursue closer cooperation across economic, trade, industrial and investment priorities – By Content Syndication Services.
